Endemic to Jamaica the Jamaican lizard-cuckoo is a mid-sized birth with a distinct look and furthermore, a distinct call. It has a long-streamlined body with a particularly long tail which is black with a white tip band. The beak is also notably long and straight with a curved tip making it suited for catching lizards. The call of the Jamaican lizard-cuckoo stands out among the cacophony calls in the forest. It fills the surrounding with a rhythmatic echoey sound that starts loud and tapers out to an eventual stop. Although a small island, many Jamaicans have never seen or hear the call of this bird due to the fact that this iconic bird is particularly comfortable in mountainous forested areas away from the built-up coastal areas of the island.
