Star apple

When cut in half horizontally this fruit displays a star pattern which is what inspires the name star apple. Its scientific name is Chrysophyllum cainito but it is also known as milk fruit are milk apple due to the colour, taste and texture of the flesh of the fruit which is generally white, sweet and creamy textured.

The skin of the star apple is smooth and lathery and may be either of a green skin are a purple skin variety. The difference is not only skin deep though. While the green skin verity is plain white to cream inside the purple variety is purple and white inside.

When it comes to fruit, the star apple is often regarded as the meanest of them all because these fruits do not fall from the tree and are difficult to reach in many cases. But when you do manage to obtain a few try not to succumb to the allure of its sweet taste because it is said to potentially cause constipation when eaten in excess.
